It was originally a military structure before being converted successively into a royal library and then the residence of the kings of France and lastly a museum and symbol of the French Revolution. In 1973, the Louvre was inaugurated as the Central Museum of the Republic. It now houses more than 500,000 pieces produced by many civilizations. Of course, you can admire the museum’s most famous works of art like the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, The Seated Scribe, and more. The monument receives more than 10 million visitors annually. Arc de Triomphe

Arc de Triomphe

While the Eiffel Tower is the symbol of Paris around the world, the 50 metres tall Arc de Triomphe is a true emblem of our capital city. Commissioned by Emperor Napoleon I upon his return from the Battle of Austerlitz in 1806, the Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated on 29 July 1836 by King Louis Philippe I. Why are there triumphal arches all over the world? They are a legacy from the Roman Empire which erected those monuments to glorify their victorious generals. The Arc de Triomphe in Paris is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, symbolic of all the soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. The arch is open to the public, but be prepared to climb 284 stairs to reach the breathtaking panoramic rooftop terrace (a lift is also available). A 360° view allows you to take in all of Paris at a glance.nn© Paris Tourist Office – Photographe: © Sarah SergentnnMore information
